Another day of storms-Long Power outage

A compact storm cell hit Champaign before 5pm. Bob was driving his new Camry for the carpool, and it started blowing, lightning, downpouring rain, and pea size hail for 10 minutes. Going down University, there were branches/debris on the road the entire way, and many intersections flooded. Taste of CU was cancelled. This cell went on to Danville putting tornados on the ground.

When I got home, WAND was on watching a sharp line of storms approaching Decatur. Went out and took a picture of the approaching front. It hit with high winds that blew all our plants over. Then heavy rain for only around 10 minutes. Then the power went out and stayed off until around midnight. It was only our neighborhood, not Forsyth, not the mall, not Decatur across the Interstate.

Power went out around 7pm. Neighborhood strangely quiet. I could hear one generator running. So I took a walk around the loop. More generators running. Basement sumps filling up--ours was 10-12 inches below the rim. Across the street was around 4 inches.

We went to Aloha to eat some dinner. Another storm front blew thru dropping more rain. Went home to look at the sump. It got higher, maybe 6-8 inches below the rim.

Across the street, neighbor just got home. His sump was 3-4 inches below. He had a generator, but never out of the box. Wife went to fill gas can.

Here's the best deal: solar yard lights can be brought inside to use like candles. Quite bright and last long. Esp. the ones that the light part detaches easily.

Power came back on at midnight. I went down to the basement, the sump pump made quick work of the water.

Next day, the creek at the golf course was overflowing, and many trees on the golf course were damaged.
