Wild storm--unusual for this time of year


Came thru Decatur early Tues morning, fast moving 40-70mph. Curved storm line indicates high winds.
High wind warnings Tuesday and Wednesday.
Decatur got .37 inch rain. good for the lawn seeding.
Tornado watches around Springfield and Effingham.
mini-tornado hit NW Champaign, blowing down fences, tearing off roofs.

Meteorologist Amy Seeley described the storm as one of the worst in decades based on a reading of the pressure level at its center

Ameren Illinois says that about 19,000 homes were without power early Tuesday morning.

Thunderstorms with very strong winds caused electrical outages across Central Illinois, with Champaign, Marion, McLean, Saint Clair, Tazewell, Vermilion and Woodford counties being the hardest hit. A total of 36 utility poles were broken: 13 near Forrest, 13 near Mahomet, nine in Paxton and one in Champaign.
