Whenever you can open up windows to ventilate/cool the house off, it's good.
I might plant chrysanthemum by the sewer pipe, where the red plum used to be. Perennial, but not invasive roots.
Also planting more stuff by the AC: butterfly bush, cone flower.
to try to make shade for the AC unit.
